Originally known as the Best Year’s BEACON, Susan Capps started the newspaper in 1986. Publisher Kevin VanGundy acquired the publication in 2008. Now, BEACON Monthly News has grown to reach more than 50,000 readers every month. The publication has consistently been a top award winner at the annual journalism competition of the North American Mature Publishers Association (NAMPA).

The BEACON Guide

A resource directory for seniors and their families

The BEACON Guide offers essential resources relating to aging well on Colorado’s Western Slope. We produce two editions—one for Mesa County and one for Montrose and Delta counties.

From aging in place resources to local clubs and activities listings, retirement planning to home services, health and medical services to caregiving, senior housing and end of life options, The BEACON Guide offers seniors, baby boomers and their families a beautifully organized guide to aging well.

Our yearly boomer and senior fair in Grand Junction and Montrose

This daylong festival brings resources and services for seniors to life. Local businesses showcase their products and services, engaging with seniors and baby boomers in a fun and vibrant environment. Local entertainers, free food, educational seminars and door prizes attract thousands of local seniors to this exciting event.

Grand Junction’s BeaconFest takes place each April at Two Rivers Convention Center. Montrose-Delta’s BeaconFest takes place at the Montrose Pavilion every September.
